Hi, I am researching the COOPER family who from the mid 1600s to mid 1800s lived in Duxford, Boxworth, Balsham, Milton, Landbeach, Waterbeach, Girton and St Andrews the Great.

Particularly searching for children of JOHN COOPER & MARTHA NEWMAN who married in 1799 at Milton CAM. Children, all baptised at Milton CAM, were: Jenny bc1804, John b1806, Mary Ann b1807, Jane b1812 married Daniel BULLIS, James, b1813 married Sophia BRAND, Eliza b1816, William b1817 and David b1820 married Frances _____.

Cambs FHS has a great website at http://www.cfhs.org.uk/Search.html

The Burial Index has burials of John in 1806 and Jane in 1812. So there seems to be a conflict with Jane baptised 1812, Jane buried 1812 and Jane who married Daniel Bullis and was aged 39 in 1851!

The Baptism Index lists another John baptised in 1810.

Have you found them in censuses (same url as above for 1841/51/61 indexes), or tried the GRO indexes for them at http://freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl ? Another place to check for post 1837 BMDs is the Camdex site at http://www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/community/BMD/camdex which gives a bit more detail than the GRO index.

Hi Jo-Anne,

I used to live on Milton Road, Cambridge so your post brought back pangs of nostalgia. It looks as if John Newman COOPER married sometime or other because in the 1861/71 census records of Islington and the 1881 census of St Peter, Cambridge he is described as a widower. In both the 1861 & 1881 census records he is described as a Shoemaker but has become a Draper in the 1871 census of Islington. However, I can't find him with any certainty in either the 1841/51 census records.

There is a marriage registration in the September qtr 1849 at Ripon reg district, vol 23, page 491 on FreeBMD of a David COOPER and one of the other names on the page is that of a Frances LODGE. Given that David's wife Frances is shown on the 1851 census as being born in Ripon and that their first child Stephen is 6 months old, I would think this marriage is a distinct possiblity.

I found a daughter Rebecca b 29 9 1835 but not Christened until 9 6 1850 Chatteris, Cambridge, England (this is an extracted record so it should be accurate but mother only listed as Sophia ... no surname)

Hope that helps

I found this on the IGI too.....it is the wrong county but being an Aussie my British geography is ordinary.... I should study the maps more :-) (is Durham near Cambridgeshire???) but it is in the right time frame and the right parents and it is an extracted record so maybe..........
