Does anyone have access to the Batley Carr parish registers. I'm looking for children born to Herbert and Dinah Coldwell who married in Scotter, Lincolnshire on 26 October 1896. The problem I have is that the 1901 census, piece RG13/4255, folio 158, page 14 shows one son, Harry aged 4, who was Born in Batley. However, the death certificate of Herbert Coldwell shows that his son, Henry was present at the death in 71 Victoria Street, Batley Carr on 27 October 1923. Perhaps the same son was present at his mother's death in 382 Leeds Road, Dewsbury on 1 April 1935. Dinah Coldwell's death certificate is less specific and only gives "H. Coldwell, son in attendance".

Perhaps they had two sons, Harry and Henry or perhaps they are the one and the same son. Can anyone please help?

Hello Eviand,

I would have said that Harry and Henry could be interchangeable, the former being an alternative name for the latter.

However, I have had a look on FreeBMD for Colwells born in the Dewsbury Registration District, which covers Batley.

It shows a Henry (March Q, 1897, volume 9b, page 630) but also a Harold (Dec Q, 1897, volume 9b, page 678)

Later on in the December quarter of 1902, again there is a Harold (9b/575)

I am sorry, but I do not have access to the parish records, so this is probably not of much help. :o

Aha! Then it is looking like Henry (March Q post #2 above) is yours, Eviand - but only the certificate will confirm - and that he is probably the Harry and H Coldwell mentioned, unless evidence to the contrary turns up.
