PARNABY from Hull to Port Natal, South Africa

Hi all,

Looking for confirmation of emigration for a Matthew PARNABY and his brother William PARNABY who were 'Haidee' settlers arriving in Port Natal, South Africa in 1850.

Matthew also sailed to Australia in 1854 with his nephew John PARNABY - I'm unable to find any record of this voyage.

Several departures from Natal for Australia in the 1850s were evidence of settler dissatisfaction with the Colony: I've checked the lists for ships such as Sarah Bell, the Golden Age, Hannah, Wee Tottie - shown on our pages at [edited - removed link - please google 'natal passenger lists'] but regret so far no sign of Parnabys.

The Public record Office of Victoria (PROV) website shows in their Unassisted emigrants database.

John (aged 20) and Mathew Parnaby (30) arriving on the 'Indian Queen' from a British port, in April 1854. The Indian Queen departed from England in January which is why it shows as being from a British port.

William Parnaby, aged 35, is shown as arriving on the 'Congure' from a foreign port in January 1864, along with a 52 year old George, and a 16 year old Charles.
