Likely Reform School for an East End lad?

My grandfather was arrested for begging and sent to Reform School either at the tail end of the 1870s or during the early 1880s. He may well have been living in Islington at the time.

Any idea where he might have been sent, and how I could access information?

Have you checked to see if he is listed on the Victorian Crime and Punishment (http://vcp.e2bn.org/) site? You can search by name and it covers some children sent to Reformatory School.

One of mine was in the The Philanthropic Society's (http://www.missing-ancestors.com/PHILANTHROPIC%20SOC%20FARM%20SCHOOL%20AKA%20SOUTHW ICH%20INFO%20PAGE.htm)Farm School at Reigate. London boys were sent there.
