How would one find a barge these days? I have been told that the family Hall Whittakers had a barge called "the Alice Linda" that worked on the Bridgewater Canal we think in the Runcorn area.

http://nwm.org.uk/HistoricBoatCollection.html has an archive which you can search. Just a suggestion, until someone knowing more about narrowboats and barges comes along.:)

barge called ALICE LINDA - sailed on Bridgewater Canal in the Runcorn area
in the mid to late 1800s so the family story goes. One of the daughters in the Whittaker family was named after it.

I am assuming it would be registered - but would this be with British Waterways as we know today or something else? Someone has suggested that Ellesmere Boat Museum might be able to help me.
