Hello All,
I wonder if anyone could give me any assistance with my search?
My Great Grandfather was known as a "Master Mariner" in the family and also on my Grandparents' marriage certificate (1898). On an earlier certificate (birth of my Grandfather) he was recorded as a "Seaman (Mate) Merchant Service". All I know about my Great Grandfather is that his name was William Stanley Carty born in London 9 February 1836 (1830?) and that it was known that he could "marry people".
The Maritime Museum could not find trace of him on their lists and advised I go to Kew to look up the Seamen's List. I am in the North of the Country and that is quite a long way for me to travel. Is there anywhere else to look?
