Hi All,

Interested in the name Hewison. I have an Edward Hewison born abt 1837 Sunderland according to the 1871, 1881 and 1891 census before he died in 1893 at Chester le Street. Was at Chester le Street in 1871. No idea who his parents were and where he was in 1851 and 1861. From the other census he may have had two sisters who married a Pattison and a Lowes / Laws as nieces and nephews were livving with him.

My husband's line comes down from son Edward 1868 who married 1891 Mary Crammond.

I think I have found him on the 1861 census in Chester Le Street.

Edward Hewison, 29, Ag Labourer, Sunderland Durham
Elizabeth, 38, Plainsworth, Durham
William L, 2( not sure if it says weeks or months), Chester le Street.

No daughter there as on 1871 and I didn't notice her near by. I notice that 1881 he is married to an Ann. There is a marriage in 1876 for a Edward Hewison a possible match to a Ann Blakey
1876, March quarter, Chester le Street, 10a 555

If this is the correct marriage you may be able to find his fathers name from the marriage certificate.

Hi Sarah

I am interested in any information about your Lowes / Laws connection. I have several Lowes in my family tree but it is thought that they were originally Laws.

Thanks Jo,

Atleast I know they were there in 1861 census. Edward did marry Ann Blakey so will need to order the certificate.

Hi Ron,

This is what I have on this name.

1871: Chester Le Street, Front Street, High Crown Inn:Edward 38 Sunderland & wife Elizabeth 47 Plawsorth with Mary A 15, William L 10, Edward 3 & step John 27 & Margaret E 18 both Robinson, niece Elizabeth Lowes 19, nephew James Pattison 15 & serv. Ann Robinson.

William L is William Lowes Hewison and died 1889 at Chester le Street. Williams brother Edward who married Mary Crammond named one of his sons William Lowes Hewison 1897. This William went onto marry Hannah Cowey. One of their children is my mother in law. William died 1972.

With the niece entry in 1871, the suranme Lowes seems to be a family named carried on by the Hewison family.

Hope this helps. If you find any other links with the Hewison family please let me know as I have drawn a blank so far.

Hi Sarah

Thanks for that information. I haven't found a direct connnection yet but I am sure one exists. I have about 70 Lowes in the tree and we know that one or more branches were in Sunderland. Most of our people came from the Sedgefield area during the late 17 and 1800s. Let me know if you want information about any of them.

If I find any Hewison's I will let you know.

Hello, I am a decendent of William and Bridget (Heatherington??) Lowes who were married in Alston April 18, 1795. I am looking to see if anyone has any connections to them. Their son, Joseph Lowes married Sarah Shield in Alston in 1821 and then immigrated to Cavan Twp in Canada. Any Lowes information would be much appreicated.

Thanks

Melissa
