I am going to photograph graves on behalf of the War Graves Photographic Project at St Joseph's RC Cemetery, Moston, Manchester. I have a map of the cemetery to go with the spreadsheet provided by TWGPP. Almost a hundred names are in the "Soldiers section (screen wall)". This is not shown on the map. Is anyone familiar with St Joseph's who could perhaps explain where it is?

If no-one on the forum is able to help, try emailing Salford Diocesan Cemeteries (http://www.salforddiocesecemeteries.org/) direct. The contact details for St Joesph's are on the link.

any better than what you have? scroll down to find St. Joseph plan and aerial view.
Is the wall where the war memorial is?

That is the map I have. I was thinking that the war memorial would be the likeliest place. Thanks for your help. |hug|

Thanks Jan for the link. I'll give it a try, but as it's weekend maybe I won't get a reply. I was planning on my first visit being Monday as someone has requested a photo of a particular grave from TWGPP and I'd like to oblige asap.
Thanks again, only 350+ graves to find and photograph ! :)

The "Soldiers plot" is indeed the War Memorial, although the cemetery office had never heard it called that. Thanks for your help.
As a matter of interest/curiosity, would those whose names appear on the memorial be buried in the vicinity? There is a large(ish) grassed area in front of the memorial. Also, one panel bears the names of some French soldiers. Anyone know why they are there?

Hi Mona, I, too am planning to visit St.Joseph's Cemetery, tomorrow infact! I am another poor soul without a plot number.....

Have you still got the map of the graveyard and aerial view link? I have tried to click on the link, but it says an error has occurred!!

Maybe it is my computer playing up - it does have a tendency to, especially when it can sense the urgency of the situation!!!

If anyone has a plan of the graveyard or any other useful info, please let me know.

Sat here with my fingers crossed!

thanks x

It may have been deleted due to copyright reasons. I think I have it somewhere on my computer, I will dig it out!
Send me an email, then I can send them to you.

Hi

One of my grandparents along with my great-grandparents and other relatives are buried in St Joseph's RC Cemetery, I rang them yesterday (their office is open Mon to Fri 9am-4am), and they can tell you exactly where the plot is you are looking for if you have the death date of the person in question.

I was trying to find my four great-aunts' burial plots, but unfortunately have birth dates (and even birth certificates), but no death date for the particular relatives I want to find, which is no good to help them find the plot(s) I need.

They are lovely people there, the office is straight up the path from the main entrance. If you ring outside their office hours you can leave a Voicemail and they will call you back.

Hello!

I also have lots of ancestors buried in Moston Cemetery. I see that you are trying to trace the death dates of your aunts. Here is a great (free) search site.

http://www.freebmd.org.uk/

It is an ongoing project, which currently has info from 1837 to the
1930s/40s. Hope you find the information you require.
