i have a JOHN FARLEY age 28 living with the BONNEY household in Whitemans Lane Great Yarmouth Norfolk on 1881 census, states he is a Labourer, and was born Limehouse/london/middlesex. He married in 1881 in norfolk and lived there till he died. but i cannot connect him to 1871 census. believe his dad might be a John Farley,as he says on his marriage certificate, but could be a red herring!
any help appreciated

Sheila,

There is this John FARLEY in the 1861 census of Limehouse in the District Childrens Establishment Stepney Union with who could be a brother Charley:

RG9/289, folio 140, page 16?

Charley FARLEY 8 Scholar Middlesex St Georges East
John do 6 Scholar do do

What was the occupation shown for John snr on his son's wedding certificate? There is a John FARLEY in the 1861 census of Bethnal Green whose father John was a Sack Maker - any good?

Janet

Actually Gorleston, Suffolk - RG11/1907 f87 p19

i cannot connect him to 1871 census.

In 1871, he might posssibly be John V VARLEY aged 18, working for a pawnbroker, bn London - see RG10/667 f28 p11 - Lower Road, Lambeth.

Hi Geoffers
yes sorry, gorleston thats right.
i will look at that John Varley, never found him,see if he is on the 1881 census.

Janet
Yes its says his father was a labourer, but i was wondering maybe if he is the John in the childrens establishment, that he could be illegitimate, and he lied about his dad to 'save face'.
also Charles is a family name,as my father and grandfather were Charles.
so possibly there could be a connection.
thanks for your help.
