About once a month and sometimes more frequently I visit the excellent family history section of the Bedford Library.

I will not look on the bmd or IGI fiches or census films at the moment, as there is usually, nowadays, a long queque for the viewers , ever since a certain TV programme, (can't wait till it gets back to normal).

I will look at Parish Registers which are transcribed 1600s to about 1812, trade and town directories, Gentleman's Magazine (which they have complete) and those printed records of Government such as pipe rolls. closed rolls etc from 12th-13th century.

If you would like me to look, and are prepared to wait, I need names, approx dates, and parish.

Good morning David
Thanks for your kind offer. I am trying to find the parents and siblings of Thomas Myers who i believe was born or baptised in Blunham in 1738. It's possible that his fathers name is Richard. Any help on the Blunham Myers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Dave.
Quite a few of my Myers/Miers are on your list. At least i have the marriage of Thomas to Elizabeth Squires and the baptisms of their children. Looks like Thomas was baptised elsewhere in the area. Thanks for your help.

Hi David,

Thanks for the very generous offer, and I wonder whether you can help me by suggesting which parishes will be worth my getting micro-films for from my local FHC.

I am trying to uncover the lives of my g-g-grandfather WILLIAM PARTRIDGE and his wife ELIZABETH before they settled in Buckingham some time between 19th Jan 1813 and 20th May 1814. According to his death cert and the memorial in Buckingham churchyard he was 61 when he died on 22nd May 1845 and she was 68 when she died on 6th Aug 1851 far off in Texas!

The 1841 census says they were not born in Buckinghamshire, and their eldest son WILLIAM WRIGHT PARTRIDGE was christened on 19th Jan 1813 at BEDFORD ST PETER.

I have traced two Bedfordshire marriages of a WILLIAM PARTRIDGE and ELIZABETH -
1) with ELIZABETH DREWETT at BEDFORD ST PAUL on 16th June 1806, but no evidence that she was a local woman.
2) with ELIZABETH MAKEHAM at BIDDENHAM on 20th Nov 1806. She was said to have been born 'about 1785' and WILLIAM 'about 1781'. No definite record of these, but 4 male MAKEHAMs were born there between 1774 and 1781. They appear to have had a child MARY born 29th Nov 1806, christened at BIDDENHAM 26th July 1807.

An ELIZABETH MARY PARTRIDGE aged 4 years was buried at BEDFORD ST PETER 6th April 1811.
A WILLIAM PARTRIDGE was christened at BLETSOE on 5th Jan 1785. Others I have found seem to be too young or too old. One further possibility, considering the eldest son's 2nd name - is there any family connection with the WILLIAM PARTRIDGE who married MARY WRIGHT in WOBURN in 1780?

Any help or suggestions would be most welcome,
Sincerely, FredP.

I can't really add much to what you know,

The marriage of William & Eliz Drewitt 16JUN1806 he is a batchelor she a spinster, in the adjacent listings where the participants are strangers their parishes are shown. So perhaps Will & Liz were from St Paul although I couldn't see eithers' baptism there.

Banns were called at St Paul 29 Sept 1805 Wm Partridge(widower) & Eliz Makeam of Biddenham(spinster). I can't see any burials for Mrs Partridge wife of Wm in the preceeding years.

re your PICKENs the London index for the 1861 has Thomas(c1819) and Susan and probably the kids living in Pancras Somers Town, if they belong to you I could fetch the details. Sadly William John isn't in the index

Thanks Dave,

I have noted what you say about the PARTRIDGE marriages.

The PICKENs, I am afraid, are not mine, but may help to eliminate other later findings.

Thank you for the kind offer of Lookups.

Could you please find me the baptism of John FENNYMORE/FINNEMORE/FINEMORE in Maulden in the early 1800s and possible siblings too please? I have a idea that his parents might be George and Ann.

Many thanks

Debbi

Hi David,
Just found this web site and hope the offer of look ups still applies.

I live in Sheffield, and only found out two years ago my G.G. Grandfather who I thought came from Barnsley, came from Bedford.
I have been down to Bedfore Archive 3 times and found back to c. 1750
I found John Simmons who fought in the Battle of Waterloo and was shot died in 1843 ( murdered and burned on a farm in Bedford) I found his parents John b. 1748 and his Mother Frances Clarke, but before that I could only find Walter Simmons and his wife Ann, I have not had the chance to come back to Bedford, so I wonder if there is anything you can help me with.
John was baptised in St. Paul.
Many thanks

Baptismal Records Request

Greetings Dave,

I would appreciate a search for baptismal or any other records or information for the Cook/ Davies/ Sly family:

Samuel Cook b. abt 1790 Bedfordshire, England. Married Mary Ann Sly Sept 29, 1814 Gamlingay, Cambridgeshire, England.

Mary Ann Sly b. abt 1796 Bedfordshire, England.

Eliza Davies b. abt. 1820 Dunton, Bedfordshire, England. Married Charles S. Cook abt. 1847 England. Parents of Charles S. Cook were Samuel Cook and Mary Sly. Eliza and Charles first child Martha Elizabeth Cook b. June 28, 1850 Fowlmere, Cambridgeshire, England. I am unsure whether Davies was Eliza's maiden name or if she had been married previously.

I do not have the parish names for the persons above. The children of Charles S. Cook were baptised in Therfield and Sandon Parishes.

Hello David

You generous offer is much appreciated.

Could you check for the birth of William FLANDERS please, born Roxton approx 1773? Are there any siblings that you can identify? He married Sarah, surname unknown as is date of marriage, so that's probably impossible to find. He was a blacksmith and was living in Eaton Socon by 1830, does he appear in any earlier directories please?

Very many thanks

Colin

Hi Dave - if the offer is still open, I am looking first of all for references to Thomas Darnell, born c1791 in Sandy. If there are any other Darnell references in there, I would be really glad to see them - I am hoping that there are no more references in Sandy to Thomas (no marriage or children in Sandy), but would love to see further back. Thanks Jo, Cumbria
