Hello,
I am following the Sells families of Hemel Hempstead, My line lived in Keens yard. I have come across a new family living in Banquet Place, Can anyone give me a clue as to where this place was?
Thanks Bill

Hi Bill,

Any other clues as to where Banquet Place might be?

What is the source of the name? If it is a census, could you provide a reference, please?

Also, have a look at the description of the enumeration district. Does it perhaps answer your question to a reasonable degree of preciseness?

And, if it does, please describe it. Hemel Hempstead is not far from me. I know it fairly well (used to work there) but do not recognise Banquet Place.

Further to my message about Banquet place, It's on the 1871 census RG10/1386 page 22.
also on the same page is Banquet House and Hop Garland.

Thank you to all you nice people who took time to reply.
Cheers Bill

We need the full census reference, please, particularly the folio number.

Have you looked at the description of the enumeration district, as suggested?

I located Hop Garlands (a pub) in the 1881 census and that was in Herbert Street which still exists (see any online map).

In 1881 there's what looks to me like "Antigua House" on the same page.

There is now an Austins Place, which runs off from Herbert Street. So, it looks like the detail that Peter found is the correct one - especially with reference to the Hop Garland.

Oh yes - I found this:

The Hop Garland
(Herbert Street)
FORMER public house of the Old Town area, which stood on the corner of Herbert Street and St Mary’s Road.

The full census refrence appears to be RG 10/1386 f 16 p 22

There may be a missing sheet in the A*y version. Pages 20 and 21 seem to be missing.

This is enumeration book number 1 to help you locate the description of the district.
