Hello listers

Can someone please help me I'm looking for the name's of local newspapers that were in circulation in and around Holyhead Bay, Anglesey, North West Wales during 1868.

My GR GR Grandfather "accidently drowned" in Holyhead Bay on 19 Feb 1868. His Death Certificate states that an Inquest was held on 21 Feb 1868 with the death being registered on 27 May 1868.

I am wondering whether or not there would have been a newspaper report of the Inquest's findings or if the Inquest papers themselves may have survived and if they did who would I contact to obtain a copy.

Richard's brother James also died on the same day in the same place. I have ordered his Death Certificate to see if he also died by drowning.

Does anyone know of a shipwreck or similar around that time as both brothers were Mariners.

Any help would be appreciated on the above.

Many thanks

Debbie

The Holyhead Mail and Anglesey Herald should cover the year for which you are looking.

It is quite probable that there will be an inquest report therein. The Anglesey Records Office (http://www.anglesey.gov.uk/doc.asp?cat=2667) may have a copy on microfilm/fiche. Either pop along there (I'm sorry, I do not know where you are located) or contact them direct. They may be able to undertake a look-up for you.

You may also find the Holyhead Maritime Museum (http://www.holyheadmaritimemuseum.co.uk/) to be of help.

Good luck with your research and please let us know how you get on. :)
