John Groves was the licensee of the Old beerhouse at Chilson in Oxfordshire in the 1930,s.They used to have an annual fair on Empire day every year where people would go in fancy dress etc;does anyone know something of those events? Gee

Chilson is a diddy little place; there is no longer a beerhouse there. I don't know of a fair and cannot find mention of one in my local hstory books (the big local fair was the Wychwood Forest fair which has recently been resurrected), though they are mostly concerned with Charlbury and don't make much mention of Chilson. You might try posting a message on the message board on the Charlbury web-site (http://www.charlbury.info/cgi-bin/dindex.cgi) and see if any locals can remember it.
