When I was but a little lad, I remember my grandmother telling me that one of her grandmothers had gone to the Crimea with Florence Nightingale. This news came to light at about the time that Anna Neagle's film 'The Lady with the Lamp' was released.

All these years later, I now know the names of her grandmothers but there's no record of any of them having been to the Crimea, or even being trained as nurses.

Would anyone know if it's possible to look up the names of Florence Nightingale's girls?
|idea| Perhaps a name might just ring a bell!

Thanks

John

There is a Florence Nightingale Museum at St. Thomas's Hospital. Maybe they could help.

Hi John,

I've sent you a PM :)

There's a list of the nurses here:

Thank you both.

No familiar names on the list, but I've realised that I don't know the name of Nan's maternal grandmother's family! I've sent off for her mother's birth cert as a first step in tracing them.

Exciting!

I was also under the impression that my gt-gt-grandmother was one of Florence's nurses whilst her husband was in the Crimean War in Sevastopol - I've checked the list at http://www.countryjoe.com/nightingale/38.htm - what a shame, it was just a rumour. [sigh]
