My current brick wall is Thomas Jones, born in Bagillt, Flintshire in approximately 1826 (estimated from later census records). I can't trace his birth/parentage at all - though there are many Thomas Joneses in Flintshire none looks quite right.
I'd dearly love some help with any aspect of Thomas's earlier life / his parentage and his marriage.
I've been looking for his marriage cert (to Hannah Burnham) but the cert I sent for (Manchester) turned out to be not the one. I've found a marriage cert for Hannah Burnham in Belper in 1846 in BMD but there's not corresponding Thomas Jones on the same page, so sending for the certificate is my only option and there's a 90% chance it won't be the right one either. (But I'll prpbably have to do it to eliminate the possibility.)
This is what I know about Thomas.
His wife was Hannah Burnham from Belper/Alfreton in Derbyshire, christened 7th April 1822.
Unfortunately Thomas was a bit elusive, whether deliberate or not, I can't find a marriage certificate or birth certs for his earlier children and I can't find him on either the 1841 or the 1851 census (though I may have missed him, of course - Thomas Jones is a very common name.)
From the 1861 census records (Reference RG9 3443 (page 12). (Barnsley) ) I've got where their children were born and this couple moved around a LOT. The firstborn, William was born in Lancashire. Unfortunately the writing on that part of the census is very difficult to decipher. It looks like Ollenport or Collenport on the 1961 census. If anyone can decipher it better than I can, I'd be grateful. I would expect him to still be at home with his parents in Bagillt in 1841 and from the birth places of the children he should have been in either Yorkshire Woolley or Somercotes, Derbyshire at the time of the 1851 census, but I've found nothing yet.
These are the children, birth places and birth years from the 1861 and 1871 census records:
William, 1847 Ollenport Lancashire
Samuel 1949, Yorlshire, Woolley
Elizabeth, 1852, Somercotes, Derbyshire
Mary Jane, 1855, Old Basford, Nottinghamshire
George Henry, 1857 Basford, Nottinghamshire
Herbert, 1858, Somercotes, Derbyshire
Edward 1859, Hoyle Mill, Yorkshire (that's Barnsley)
And from the 1871 census after Thomas' death in 1866 we see there were two later children:
Alfred 1863, Hoyle Mill, Barnsley
Sophia, 1865, Darfield, Barnsley
Any help gratefully received.
