Hello All

This is a long shot but I thought I would try it.
I have a Mary Morton who was born in Hemsworth in 1785 and died in Norton in 1855. She is buried in St James Church, Norton, Sheffield.
I cannot be sure that Morton was a married name or maiden name because there is no record of a husband anywhere. She did have a daughter Selina c1820.
Has anyone got access to these parish records that could have a look for me?

I would be most grateful.

Thankyou

As you know the place, have you tried the Yorkshire list?

Both sets of records appear to have been filmed by the Mormons and can be hired in at one of their local centres.

I know it probably won't help you but there are Norton, Derbyshire marriages 1559 - 1812 at this link: http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/DBY/Norton/

Follow the link to "Marriages at Norton, 1559-1812"

(Norton , Sheffield was in Derbyshire)

Hi,

Andrew,

Which list do you mean, is it the one on this forum or elsewhere?

Peter,

Thanks for that info.

Michael,

Thanks, I have had a look, the only Mary Morton marriage was to a George Greaves on 21st April 1811, interestingly they were both widowed. I don't think that this is my Mary because she was still listed as Morton on all Census until her death in 1855. Surely she would have been Greaves after her marriage.

This (British Genealogy) forum - If you go to the bottom of the page you will find 'forum jump'. Scroll down to English Counties, then Yorkshire.
