Was awarded the military cross in WW1 at the battle of somme in mid july 1917. If a citation was given, we cannot find one. I did find his medal card.
He fought with the 16th Highlander which was made up of boys bridgade from Glasgow.

How would we find WHY he was awarded the medal?

My mum talked about him often. He was the brother of her father who was her mum's 2nd husband. In the family he was seen as a hero as well as a McGregor!

On the medal card he was demobbed at the end of WW1 but my mum said his family was the army. He didn't have a house and all his belongings were in a small battered cardboard suitcase which was carried everywhere he went!

Cheers
