Hi Pete,

Was it Warkworth where the both parents originated? I ask, because in my family, the babes were often taken to the parish church for baptism of one of the parents, which was not the village in which they were living.

Have you checked the Parish Records to see if it gives any clues? It might say "of the parish" or it might even say something like "of Bellingham" for instance.

the marriage record states" both of this parish" and witnesses not related

You have probably thought of this - and checked! - but what about over the border into Scotland? I ask because I have ancestors (probably!) in Netherwitton, Northumberland, and that line goes back to Roxburgh in Scotland.

Tuh! That's that idea blown out of the water...

I will have a ponder...

Clutching at straws here - I am good at that!
Did you get these siblings from a census entry? Is there a clue from the occupation - Warkworth being on the coast, they may have had something to do with the sea and been fairly mobile up and down the coast.

occupations are tailors or weavers at local mill so no good. i like your logic tho

not going to be adding anything other than understanding for your frustration. I have a few members in my family who just dont seem to be anywhere!
just sharing your frustration! could the child in question perhaps be a baby from a liason and therefore issues with baptism? I know what people were MEANT to do in this situation, but what they actually do has proven to be quite different I have found?? Any other children listed with similar dates but perhaps different surname?

I'm possibly asking the obvious here, but have you checked spelling variations. In my Berwickshire OPS, I have people calling themselves Blakie, Black and Blake at different times.
Also, are you sure that they were Church of England? Be aware that my research is north of the Border and I don't know whether this applies in Northumberland, so much, but had they been another denomination they might have take the kids elsewhere for baptism (in Berwickshire, about 1/3 of the community was not of the Established Church of Scotland).
