Would any one have any records from people coming from Hamburg to UK.Managed to find a Great Grandparent from the 1861 census upwards but dont know how he got here.He was in Liverpool from that time onwards.Know that he was prussian and born in Hamburg but thats it.George Rademacher was his name but Rademacher changed slightly a few times throughout the census.Asked about him a few times whilst over here and got a good few bits of info but need to find the before bits.He was born in 1833....

Hi Colashbury,

Ancestry.com and Ancestry.de has Hamburg shipping lists. That is the good news.

The bad news is they have only indexed 1890 - 1913 and they do not appear to cover passengers to the UK. Oh, and they are in German - for the life of me I don't know why.|laugh1|

Have searched a couple of sites that have shipping records but could not find him.will keep lookin......

In 1836, the Aliens Act (6&7 Will IV, cap 11) introduced some relaxation in the system of registration but required that masters of vessels make a declaration on arrival of all aliens. HO 3 consists of returns of alien passengers made by masters of ships under section 2 of the Act of 1836. The lists survive for the period July 1836 to December 1869 but no lists survive for the period January 1861 to December 1866. After 1869 the Home Office preserved the lists for only five years after which they were destroyed. The lists are arranged chronologically and there are four lists per year. There are no name indexes though the Anglo-German Family History Society has extracted some 36,000 names from the period 1853-69.
