I have been trying to find the birth for the following child,

Jane Webb or Day born in Bow (alledgedly) c1873.

Other places the family lived were;
Ipswich, Reading and West Ham.

Jane is referred to as Jane DAY on the 1881 census and all of the other children in the family who are listed as "DAY" on various census returns are registered at birth as WEBB, so you would think Jane would be as well.

It doesn't look as if their parents Thomas DAY and Mary WEBB ever married although Mary is listed as, wife-Mary DAY.

I haven't been able to find a marriage entry for them anyhow.

Also, one of the children Elsie DAY (who was registered at birth as Elsie WEBB) married under the name of DAY!

All very strange. Can anyone offer some help/solutions/advice please?
My head hurts!|banghead|

thanks

Free BMD has a lot of Jane Webb entries either side of 1873.
The nearest to what you have said is,

Jane Edith Webb registered June 1873 in Mile End. 1c/551
The A11, Mile End and Bow are next door.:)

Thank you Mutley

I noticed there were lots of Jane Webbs but couldn't find one that would fit, my knowledge of London isn't great so that didn't help.

I will get the cert for this one and see -take it from there.

The marriage can't be theirs as Mary Webb was in a workhouse in Ipswich in 1871 with her first illegitimate child-my great grandfather. She took up with Thomas sometime from 1873-1879 when the next two children were born but whether he is the father of these two is anyone's guess!!

I am determined to sort out this family......it gets you like that doesn't it?

Anyhow, thanks for finding that birth record!
