His dads name was frederick Edward Hall 1906 (i think) his mothers maiden name was PICK. Hello Alyson,

If you have not done so already, lay your hands on a copy of your grandparents marriage certificate. With any luck, this should help to pin down the age of Frederick Edward Hall and you will then be able to look for his birth certificate.

The marriage certificate should also name Frederick's father, which may be used as a "knock-out" factor when ordering his birth certificate.

Good luck!

Hi Alyson
I went looking in freebmd for a marriage for an Frederick Edward Hall to someone Pick but the only one that came up was in June 1/4 1901 District Westbury S (which is another name for Westbury on Severn) vol 6a page 585. Frederick Hall married Mary Ann Pick But this seems far too early for your grandparents if your dad was born in 1944 doesn't it? But so many similarities.
Then there are these births in Bedwellty with surname Hall and mother's maiden name Pick
Edith M Hall March 1/4 1918 Bedwellty vol 11a page 243
Winifred E Hall June 1/4 1921 Bedwellty vol 11a page 277
Freda M Hall Dec 1/4 1929 Spalding (Lincolnshire) vol 7a page 525.
Just something to throw in to the mix.
Is your father the youngest of the children? When were his brother's born?
As Jan 1954 says you need Frederick Edward's marriage certificate.

Hi again Alyson
We are all agreed that the marriage certificate for Frederick Edward Hall and Mary Ann Pick with the details given below by both me and Maureen is what you need to order from the GRO to move you further back in your investigation.
I misunderstood your first post but have now fathomed out who belongs to who - I think. I wish I could say slow but sure but sometimes I am just slooooow.:)

Hi Alyson
I am not sure but to get past the 1837 mark I think you then start searching in the Pallot Index in Ancestry but I am not sure maybe someone else will know that way I will learn too:cool:;)

You can also use the IGI INDEX......

Glad you got that far at least|jumphappy

Hello Alyson and Maureen
just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water here I am again, but only for a minute
Try this site http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers.htm (http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers.htm)
You can do it the proper way by reading all the instructions or do as men do when tackling a new project, just dive right in. It is a great site. Also type "parish registers' in to google and can add the parish you are interested in.
There are so many sites and I am sure that somewhere on B-G there will be references to what you need. Try the forum search facility at the top of each page.
If the LDS church has filmed the parish registers you need you can order them for viewing at one of their centres. Find the nearest one to you on the familysearch site.
Ok that's it, got to think about what to pack in my port to take to NZ. It's my mum's 100th birthday on Sunday.

Thank you Alyson and Maureen for the birthday wishes for mum. I finally got the port packed, just have to deliver the dog to the kennels in the morning. First time in his life he has been in a kennel but he has flown to NZ and back.
I will try to keep an eye on what is happening whilst I am gone Alyson. Good luck with it.
Love the birthday girl Maureen.
