John Gould

I am trying to find a birth or bapt for John abt 1830 in Somerset. On his Immigration records it says he came from Winford, Somerset but that could mean he was living there when he left to emigrate. His parents was Richard Gould and Mary Unknown. He had a brother, George who was born at Publow in c1836. I have been searching for this for about 5 yrs so any help would be great.|help|

How about this family in the 1841 census of Batheaston, Somerset - they seem to fit all your known details:

Batheaston is pretty close to Publow and not too far distant from Winford.

It is interesting that in the 1841 census, it states that none of them were born in Somerset, but in the 1851 Richard, Mary & George were all born in Somerset. When did John emigrate as it might help us to find him on earlier census records. At the moment I am having difficulty finding him on the 1851 with any certainty.

These census records are the family I am following and I had found these records before.
John emigrated to Australia in 1849 that is why he is not in the 1851 census. The immigration record says he came from Winford that is why I was searching in that area but I had not found a record that really fits in with him so I keep searching.

Have done a search on the IGI for both John 1830 +/- 5 years and George 1836 +/- 5 years father Richard mother Mary in Somerset nothing on there for you.
