The first mention of Michael Barnsley[my 4xggrandfather
is in 1773 when there is a burial of Mary wife of Michael in the Earsdon Parish records. Then he is married in 1775 and is buried in 1785. I can't find any Barnsleys before this in the Earsdon parish records. Going off his surname I wondered if he could have come from Yorkshire. I found a Michael Barnsley christened in Rotherham in 1733 and he married a Mary Harwood in Sheffiels in 1761. I wonder if this could be the same person. Any ideas how I can find out. Help

Thanks bchristi. I have searched the Earsdon Parish records and could not find a record of Michael's birth. I will have another look the next time I am in the Archives. Have you seen the record?

I still think Michael Barnsley came from the Rotherham area. Can anyone please tell me if there is any record of the Yorkshire Michael's death in Yorkshire ? If not then I think he may have moved to Northumberland. Someone mentioned the Settlement Certificates of the time, but I don't know how to find them.
