I believe my GGG-Grandfather(Thomas Lown) was born in Sleaford in 1803.
Looking for any info on his family or any Lown, is appreciated.
He married a Jane Hod(g)son or Johnson, b.1818, looking for info in that direction also. Norfolk may be a location.

Thomas came to America and worked in NYC on shoes, on his way to Ohio, then to Iowa.

LOWN(E) / LOWEN(E) / LOWND(E) / LOUN(E) / LOUND(E) is a common surname in Norfolk. We have several hundred of them on the Norfolk Transcription Archive
http://www.genealogy.doun.org/transcriptions/index.php

If his wife was born 1818, the chances are that they married 1837 or later. In this case you should be able to obtain a marriage certificate. To do this you will need to search the General Register Office (GRO) index. A project exists to trtanscribe the index at
http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

The complete index is available on pay-per-view website, 1837 online.

If you are not sure of the system of civil registration, just ask and I'll type a brief explanation.

Do you know that he moved to Norfolk, and also when did he emigrate?
