As some of you well know I spent a fair bit of time tracking down my gg grandmother Robina Smith, which is documented to a certain extent here --->http://www.british-genealogy.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31514

Knowing basically who her parents are (Charles SMITH and Mary Ann SMITH of Maybole, Ayrshire, Scotland), I started searching for them around the place of origin and think I found them in 1851 and then again maybe the dad in 1841. Check these out:

Piece: SCT1851/605
Place: Maybole -Ayrshire
Enumeration District: 5
Civil Parish: Maybole
Ecclesiastical Parish, Village or Island: Maybole
Folio: 0 Page: 2 Schedule: 4
Address: Trees Farm House
SMITH Charles Servnt U M 19 Farm Labourer Ayrshire - Maybole
SMITH Mary Servnt U F 20 House Servant Ayrshire - Ayr
*This Charles says he was born in Maybole and generally matches up with my Charles...

Then we get this fellow...

Piece: SCT1841/605
Place: Maybole -Ayrshire
Enumeration District: 8
Civil Parish: Maybole
Ecclesiastical Parish, Village or Island:
Folio: 0 Page: 1
Address: Trees Muir Or Hon Muir
SMITH Charles M 10 Ayrshire
*All signs point to it being the same Charles, born in Ayrshire blah blah blah fits like a glove...
**So I check out the rest of the household and get this...
SMITH Robert M 35 Agricultural Labourer Ireland
SMITH Agnes F 35 Ireland
SMITH Charles M 10 Ayrshire
SMITH Agnes F 8 Ayrshire SMITH
Robert M 5 Ayrshire SMITH
Charles M 30 Agricultural Labourer Ireland
*It looks as though Robert and Agnes are the parents and as you can see they state pob as Ireland. It makes perfect sense that its them, but is it? And if it is, should I be afraid of searching in Ireland?

short answer - YES

pretend you didn't find it |biggrin|

what you have to do is first is to follow this Charles up and make sure he is not still there in 1861.

It is best to use it when the Poms are asleep - oops, did I say that out aloud?
They keep updating their servers to keep up with the demand.
