Hello,
The obituary for my ancestor, Charles Scott , (1804-1900) says he worked on Britains oldest railroad before emigrating to Canada.
As he lived in KIrkhampton, Cumberland for several years , the Stockton and Darlington RR seems like a possible place of employment.
Does anyone have employment lists from the 1820's?

Thanks
David

There is a Darlington Railway Museum site here (http://www.darlington.gov.uk/Culture/headofsteam/welcome.htm)

The links on the left give you background on the railway and there appears to be a study centre which has all sort of info on the railway. It may be worth contacting them to see if they can help, although there doesn't seem to be an e-mail address, only a postal one.

Best wishes
Ann
