As in 'How do you make a URL here' please?
Regular readers :) will know that I'm the forum's computer dimbo, though I am improving and getting slightly bolder in what I attempt with each passing week. :)
So I'm now going to attempt to raise myself to the level of the likes of Geoffers and Jan (I wish! :D ) who know how to do here and then when you click on it you get straight to the URL.
I can only understand baby steps though, so if it's more difficult than that don't waste your time trying to explain. :)

Have a read here (http://www.british-genealogy.com/forums/faq.php?faq=vb_read_and_post#faq_h_k) of the code buttons section. Scroll down until you hit it.

TRY here (http://www.british-genealogy.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3)

I'm no expert, but if you go in to the quote reply of this post you will be able to see how it done, I hope.

Thanks Jan.
Hopefully I'll have sussed it out in time for B-G's second anniversary.:D

Almost Pam! You have one too many "http"s in there ;)
If you take out the second http and the following slashes (i.e http//) that would work fine.
But the actual linking part works fine!

Mark
You must have been waiting all afternoon for me to do that!
For those who haven't been watching this thread every second of the day Mark responded to a test that I did, but then deleted because it didn't work. :D
However, I think I now have the hang of it. And yes, Bo Peep, it is easy - once you know how. :)
Especial thanks to Jan, |hug| and thank you to everyone else for your words of encouragement. :)
Hopefully, I will now show off.
Now (http://www.british-genealogy.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31223)
(It's supposed to lead back to this thread.)
Pam

ADDED about 15 minutes later: If you're wondering how I managed to quote a reply from Mark that is no longer in the thread it's because he deleted it. (This is getting more bizarre by the moment!)

Nice one Pam! That works wonderfully!
It does take a bit of getting used to - but is much nicer than seeing a huge URL listed sometimes. Must admit to being very lazy myself and I usually just stick in the full URL ;)

Shame on you. And you a Super Mod too. :D
Though I expect you'll be super modding all my future posts and telling me off if I 'get lazy' instead of using my new-found skill! :)

I do have to stress that it didn't take me over four hours to work out how to do it :) - I got involved with something else that took a bit longer than expected.

Indeed - shame on me :D
I *do* know how to do the linkies, but I really am bone idle ;)

Yep, I deleted my earlier message after you removed yours Pam - I thought it might cause confusion! Not to worry - I am sure folks will guess that would be the case.

Mark :)

If/when you do add links, don't type them in! Open a second instance of your browser, or another tab if firefox, and go to the site you want to refer to. Than highlight and copy the URL in the bar on the browser and paste it in to your message - that way you know there won't be tryping mistooks and that the link actually works!

Good idea, Andrew - I do that! ;)

Also, I click on the Preview Post button, so that I can click on the link - just to make sure that it works! :D
