From census forms my G.G.Grandfather John Leat 1814 was born in Bath Somerset, but this I can't find or any family on record, the first record I can find is 1851 census where John is married to a Sarah Southern born Moreton in the Marsh Glos. 1824 ? I can find nothing on her either earlier on, I do have their Marriage Cert though, they married in Nottingham in 1844. I have found a Charles Leat married to Harriet Ransom in Bath 1808. Who may be his father and mother. Charles's family starts on the 1841 census forms, their first child born in 1821, they must have had children between 1808 and 1821, could John 1814 be one of them, I have also found a Kezia Leat born 1821 Bath Somerset, could she be another. I seem to have gone as far as I can, UNLESS anyone out there can |help| help me.
Many Thanks
Sue

According to FreeREG using the whole of Somerset as a search, here is a record for a John Leat, which matches both your John and the suggested name for his father. The mother's first name is Susanna however.

County Somerset
Place Pitminster
Church St Mary and St Andrew
BaptismDate 18 Sep 1814
Forename John
Sex M
FatherForename Charles
MotherForename Susanna
FatherSurname LEAT
MotherSurname
Abode Kibbeer
FatherOccupation Labourer

Could be your John. Possible siblings are:

Hannah, Sarah both bapt 11 Dec 1806
Susannah bapt 9 Jun 1811
Charles bapt 11 Jun 1809

All born to Charles and Susanna Leat. I can't find a marriage for Charles and Susanna. It may be that she was not from Somerset and they married in her parish before settling in his.

Thanks Bunty, that is something to look into, the reason I put together what I did was the Kezia name, John had a daughter called Emma Kezia Leat 1858, only found that out when I sent for her Birth Cert, then when I found the other Kezia 1821, and wondered if John had called her after his ' sister '.

I have Kezia Leat's Marriage Cert to a Joseph Vile 1842 one of th witnesses was a Sarah Leat, which could have been John's wife, that's where I get the brother and sister thing from. Thanks for your time
Sue
