My husband bought me the ACDB 1871 London City cds for Christmas & I have walked all the streets of the 3cds since Christmas day without finding the family I was looking for.

This morning the postman delivered an 1861 London City cd I bought on ebay & I found the family within half hour. I would like to recheck the 1871 & this is where I need some help.

If anyone has a street index could they please tell me which peice number I need for Liverpool Street please as I would like to search the surrounding streets.

Sally

You should find Liverpool St in:
414 folio 75-77
414 79-82
415 26
415 4

Hope this helps

Welcome to the forum Mark & what a great way to start by helping a fellow member.
Many thanks for the Liverpool Street info :D which will save me re scanning all 3 cds.

I have just re-walked the streets around Liverpool Street thanks to Mark's folio references & no luck. I have however managed to work out the name of the address for my family on the 1861 which is Sherriotts Buildings (off Liverpool Street according to the street index).

Any chance that someone could check to see if these buildings were listed on the 1871 index for me please?

Hi Sally,

I have access to Ancestry. If you post the details of the family I can check if they appear.

Thank you for the offer Procat but this is my elusive MANGIN family which you kindly tried to find for me on Ancestry last month. Trouble is there are too many letters in the surname which could be mistranscribed. Freebmd has one daughter double entried as MANGIN & MAUGIN as it is not clear on the indexes & I reckon that having got the original on the 1861 it will be transcribed as MANGAN.

I have now however re looked at all the Bishopsgate pages very slowly & have come to the conclusion that they are not there. So what's new I ask myself - this family have been a headache all along.
Thanks again for your kind offer.

Regards
Sally

Sally

There are 21 MANGIN, living in London, listed in the Ancestry 1871 index. Do you want to throw some names my way and maybe there'll be a match.

Hi Mark

Thank you for the kind offer but Procat & 3 others have tried before so I do not expect them to be found on Ancestry.
However, if you would like to give it a go then this is the info for the 1871 although the older girls may not be with the family.
James MANGIN, 60, Shoemaker (or bootmaker/cordwainer) & Mary, 48 (according to 1871 both born Bishopsgate, Middlesex)
Catherine, 22
Margaret, 20
Elizabeth, 18 (Eliza on 1861)
Maria, 15 (would be 17 according to 1861 info)
Mary Ann, 12
all girls born Bishopsgate, Middlesex

Many Thanks
Sally

Ah, THEM :)

I'm sure they'll come bouncing out of the woodwork one day Sally.

Good Luck.
