I find this is a great site, Have found my gg-grandfather mentioned several times in court procedings, as a victim. my gg-grandfather owned a shoe shop in Fore St Cripplegate.his name James Smetzer.
If you think your ancesters in london may have had some connection through the criminal courts:- ie A victim
A defendant
A jury member
A judge

What a brilliant insight into the justice system of the time. Found myself browsing through some of the entries in amazment (7 years transportation for stealing a silk handkechief!!). Whatever happened to that justice system!:)

This is the updated site (http://www.oldbaileyonline.org/), which takes you up to 1913.

Mind that you do not get lost for days, apehangmom... ;)
