I will say only as I find.

We have discovered that some of the details in the land scrip issues for certain families in Manitoba may be incorrect.

Those who are familiar with the scrips, will understand that the information written in them is an English translation of a verbal interview carried out in a native or non-English language.

Unlike a census, there was gain to be had by providing the "correct" answers.

The Red River valley area of Manitoba lost many of its early original records, and the scrips of the 1870's remain as the only written record of certain people. Just because it is written doesn't mean it is accurate.

Many Canadian researchers will be familiar with certain publications that are a transcript of the original information, my advice is

1: Refer back to the original, which if not on line, will require a visit(s) to the archives.

2: Try to fully understand the history of the land-scrip, from both sides. They were never intended to be used as a genealogical record.

3: The most difficult part. Be prepared to ignore some of what has been found and record it as conjecture.
