Hi I am a little stuck as my great-grandmother was born and registered as Annie Doming 1871 in Croydon. Her mother is listed as Louisa Doming in the 1971 census born in Poole Dorset. The birth certificate has no fathers name on it although on the census she states that she is married. On Annie's marriage certificate she lists Spencer Doming as her father (deceased). I cannot find any record of Annie or Louisa or Spencer in the 1881 census. Actually I cannot find any Spencers anywhere! |help|Any ideas where I could go from here or does anyone have Doming in their trees?

Any help would be gratefully appreciated

Hi Dawn,

IGI does actually have a couple of Spencer Doming's. One in Lewisham in 1733, whose father is also Spencer and this one;

Spencer Doming christened 06 Mar 1829 Mortlake Surrey Parents John Doming and Sarah.

I couldn't find a marriage for him though.

I found this one married to Ellen, with 2 children and living in Ladywood, Birmingham in 1871. Have yet to find another one...

Hi Dawn,

Have you Annie's birth certificate?

Cannot find a birth for Louisa born Poole in the time frame given on the census (though you cant always go by the census).

There is a Louisa Doming born 1829 Poole, there is no Louisa with her in 1861, but the daughters were born in Newfoundland. The nearest one of the daughters Mary was born abt 1845, could this be that Louisa was born Newfoundland and thats why I cant find her birth registration? or an I barking up the wrong tree?

Found a Spencer Dorning but he was too young.

In handwriting it is very easy to confuse 'rn' with 'm'

Could the surname have been Dominy? I have a lot of these in my tree from Poole and surrounding areas. No Spencer though

Darcy, Yes I have thought that it could be Dominy but on the marriage and birth it says Doming. You dont by any chance have a Louisa born about 1849 ish in Poole do you. I am fast coming to the conclusion that maybe she was unmarried and made up a fathers name. I cannot find Louisa or Annie in 1881 census at all which is confusing me
