I have family who were married in the Great Synagogue of London. How can I trace them through the Synagogue. Is there anyone able to do a lookup?
Best to all, Ray

Give us some more information, like names and dates. I have Angela Shire's book of Great Synagogue marriage Registers 1791-1850.

Dear Ladkyis.
Thank you for your interest and you willingness to do this research for me. It will be great to have a more connected source than the work I have been able to do thus far.

Provern material.......

As I say, for part 2 of this I have no proof, paper work or certificates. But I am grateful to all those who have brought me closer to a Jewish history our family hid for at least two generations. A fact I find very sad.

I managed a quick look at the book - I am supposed to be sewing but this is more fun - and I found a marriage for a Solomon Hart and Mary Joel these are all the details in the book

1844 33/69
HART Solomon. Pinchas Zelig s of Moshe haCohen
JOEL Mary. Miriam d of Dan HaLevi

in the comments column was this

GSM 1843 (22/50) Probable sister

I looked (of course) and found this

1843 22/50
BENJAMIN Morris. Moshe s of Simcha
JOEL Sarah. d of Daniel

I will look for other stuff later, I really have to get some work done now.

Because my wife is a sew and sew girl I begrudgingly understand and will sit back and hope to hear from you shortly.

ok as far as I can see all the other dates come after 1850 so I don't have anything in the book. However, I think you should take a look at this site

http://www.british-jewry.org.uk/

and have a good rummage. Angela Shire, who did the book on Marriage registers has put all her transcriptions onto this site now and has done a load more too.

You don't have to be a member of the mailing list to look at the site - it is a rootsweb mailing list so membership is free anyway, and it is a very good list. I am a member. but you don't need to join to see the information on the website.
