Are there any Directories, Registers, etc for the Chicago area during the 1930s? I'm trying to find Frederick Nicholl who I believe made bikes in the area during the 1930s. Any info greatfully received.

Peter, try a google for Chicago US newspapers 1930. You may well find him advertising his wares that way. I've had similar success with a
family connection which also told me all about a chap called "Dillinger". Depending on the page you may well get all adverts. (even put in his name & Bike dealer or whatever)

luck to you.

Peter,
the site http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ilcook/research.htm states that there were directories for 1844 - 1929 that the LDS has microfilmed.
Lots of information on this site if you haven't seen it.

The 1930 census lists him as a gardener for a private family.

Here's what I believe might be his death information in case you didn't know it.

Quite a few volunteers at the illinois raogk site ... http://www.raogk.org/illinois.htm cook county is chicago proper... you might see if they can help you out.

Thanks Wendy and Betsy
Quite a few things for me to follow up.
My Fred was in NJ for the 1930 Census along with his wife and young daughter.
But again Thanks for the tips, so hopefully another couple of bits for the jigsaw.
Peter
