:confused:I have a relative Christpher ATKINSON (b 1879) listed in the 1901 census as being a private in the Royal Marine Barracks at Chatham.
His occupation recorded on his marriage certificate (1905) is constable metropolitan police.
Where could I find information relating to his time in the marines?
Many thanks Lee58

As you're in New Zealand, I imagine you'll have to get someone to search on your behalf. Some are cheaper than others.

the best bet I would say is to obtain a copy of the Public Record Office Guide No 10

RECORDS OF THE ROYAL MARINES by Garth Thomas

This costs about £10 - 00 over here but you may be able to locate a copy there
It is excellent for finding what information is held where and the search reference so you could apply direct
A lot cheaper than using an unknown researcher, sadly that title does not always go with the word professional I found to my cost

Hope this helps
