Births and Deaths are by State. Marriages are usually by County. Wills are by County. Each place will handle things differently and costs will differ.

If you get a death certificate, there might also be the chance that the funeral home is still in existence. The funeral home records often have information that is useful that you won't find on the death certificate. You can usually find funeral homes from old obituaries.
