Can anyone please help me find details of a mining incident in 1945 at Loftus Ironstone Mine. According to Durham Mining Museum website their was a British Empire award/ Kings Commendation made by the minister 10 Dec 1945. I would like to find details of this incident as one of my ancestors received a letter of appreciation according to the website. I have followed the links for incidents but to no avail and wondered if there are likely to be any other web sites etc I could try.

The London Gazette mentions some details with the award of B.E.Ms and King's Commendations - see this link (http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/ViewPDF.aspx?pdf=37624&geotype=London&gpn=3214&type=ArchivedSupplementPage&all=loftus&exact=&atleast=&similar=)

Messrs WHEATMAN, DALE, KNIGHT and EASTMAN are mentioned.

Hi Nina. You may find this of interest, it makes note of the name Loftus rather than Lofthouse.

and here may be a contact for additonal information.

Loftus brings in a number of intersting articles.
