I'm trying to find out when one branch of the family moved from Devon to London by asking if SKS may be able to look them up for me in either the 1871 or 1861 census please. I have found them in 1841 Devon, but NOT 1851. Have also found them again in 1881, 1891 and 1901 censuses in Marylebone (At same address 1881/1891 - not sure about 1901, have not paid to see the address, yet!)

The address in 1881/1891:
114 Crawford Street,
West Marylebone, St Mary

Charles CHAPPLE(CHAPPEL/CHAPPELL/CHAPEL)
b.Sep 1819 Chittlehampton, Devon, Bootmaker
wife, Jane B.1821 South Molton, Devon
boarder 1881-1901- Sarah ROOTS, b. 1838 Bletchingly, Surrey, Shop Woman/Shop assist./Housekeeper Domestic

Have also looked Charles up in "Post Office Directory- London 1851" - not there!

ANY information most gratefully received, thank you.

kindest regards
Julie Thompson

Hi Julie

I have checked the 1871 census and found them as follows -

RG10/167 Folio 54B
114 Crawford Street, Marylebone
Charles CHAPPLE, head, 51, Boot maker, N Devon Chittlehampton
Jane CHAPPLE, wife, 50, N Devon South Molton

I will check the 1861 census now.

Hi Julie

I have checked the 1861 but they were not at the same address .

I have looked at the 1901 and found them -
RG13/110 Folio 152A
114 Crawford Street, Marylebone
Charles CHAPPLE, head, 81, bootmaker, Devon Chittlehampton
Jane CHAPPLE, wife, 80, Devon S Molten
Sarah ROOLE?, housekeeper, Un, 63, Surrey Bletchingly

I hope that this helps.

Copper, thank you so much for all your efforts.
I really appreciate the extra efforts with the 1901 address, and looking at both censuses.
My kindest regards
Julie

Julie

I am also researching this part of the Chapple family. William Chapple son of Charles is my great great grandfather. Would like to hear if you have found any further links. Thank you.
