Does anyone know where I could find information on people who were wheelwrights?

The only information I have on this family member is that his daughter Winifred Lilian WEBB was born in January in Wales and bought to Swindon where she was registered in the April. His wife died after childbirth and he gave his daughter away. And the fact that he was a Wheelwright!

BG has some threads on Wheelwrights

There are a lot of sites with very interesting historical information if you google "Wheelwright" or "wheelwrights"

Do you have a year for Winnifred's birth?

Winifred was born in 1917.

Not sure what you have got already, but Winifred L WEBB was registered in Swindon June qtr 1917 Volume 5a, page 17, if you haven't already got the birth certificate.

Her mother's maiden name of ABSALOM is given on the index, so this unusual name made it quite easy to search for the marriage.

William J. WEBB married Ada M. ABSALOM
Swindon
June quarter 1914 Volume 5a page 22

Can't immediately see a death for an Ada WEBB in 1917 but Ada ABSALOM appears on the 1901 census: RG13; Piece: 1909; Folio: 79; Page: 51

2 Gordon Gardens, Swindon

Thomas ABSALOM 32 GWR Boilersmith b Wiltshire, Stretton
Ada J ABSALON 31 b Wiltshire, Swindon
Ada M dau 7 b Cornwall St.Blazey
Olive B dau b Cornwall, Par
Thomas S son 2 b Wiltshire, Swindon

If Thomas worked for the Great Western Railway it would explain why he was in Cornwall and why there was possibly later a Welsh link. It is possible that William WEBB did as well, even although he was a wheelwright/carpenter, as he might have been involved in wagon building.

Ada May ABSALOM was born Dec qtr 1893
St.Austell, Cornwall Volume 5c page 94

There are obviously a lot of William WEBBs and you would need to get his marriage certificate for his age and father's name, but assuming that he met Ada in Swindon this looks like a possible in the 1901 census:

RG13; Piece: 1907; Folio: 55; Page: 18
William WEBB 43 General labourer b Chiseldon, Wilts
Anne WEBB 41 b Weymouth, Dorset
William J WEBB son 12 b Swindon, Wilts
Charles S WEBB son 8 b Swindon, Wilts

I know this is an old post but i was searching for my friends family ABSALOM and came across it. The Ada May you refer to is his Great Aunt. f you want any further info please contact me and i can possibly help. His grandfather is the Thomas Stanley refered to in the 1901 census - i also have the 1911 one is it helps. Ada May parentsd are buried in Radnor Street Cemetery in Swindon
