There is a gravestone in Sutherland which refers to a gentleman who lived in Ayr. He is mentioned in my latest book on the Mackay Families of Sutherland and I would very much welcome any information on his life in Ayr.
Robert Mackay, formerly residing in Ayr afterwards in Rosehall, Creich, Sutherland. Robert was actually born in Sutherland in 1807 and died there in 1880.
What was he doing in Ayr?
Not many folks from Sutherland ended up there!
