I have recently learnt that my great grandfather Nicholas Hastings was buried at Braamfontein , grave number 18,310
died May 20TH 1908 aged 33 years .

From a tape recording made in the 1970`s by his son ,it seems that he was a gold miner at Langlaate ?? I do have a photograph of him taken with what look like mine officials c 1901 and there is another photograph in existence taken around the same time with a multitude of mine workers .
He left his family in Whitburn County Durham in 1903 and there was no further conact with him . It seems , according to family " chatter" ,that he actually started another family in Johannesburg . It is said that two black girls .the Miss Hastings, actually visted Whitburn in the late 1920`s .

How would I go about finding more information about him and the gold mine he was at .

His brother Thomas Hastings also went out there, died 15th September 1901 , he , according to the death certificate, was in the Rifle Mine Guards .

any help in anway or advice greatly appreciated

could I have distant cousins out there ?
