Hi

I have a birth certificate for Archibald McLean Born 25 Nov 1908
Parents are John McLean & Agnes Corran McLean
John's Occupation is listed as Threadmill Worker.
Other children believed to be Nan, Mary & Jean.

Looking for 1881 1901 census info & Marriage for John & Agnes

Any information would be much appreciated.

Regards
Kinshar

I had a quick look on Ancestry, but, as you can appreciate, John and Agnes were very common names in Scotland and, as you can't access the images, it's almost impossible to say if they are yours or not.

Did you have an address for Archie's birth?
Have you looked on ScotlandsPeople?
Was CORRAN Agnes's middle name or surname?
Did you find them in 1891 - if so can you give details?

Sorry for all the questions! ;)

Hi
Thanks for taking the time to look up.

From what i can make out the address on the birth certificate is

11 West Campbell Street Paisley

Info for Agnes reads as written on separate lines
Agnes Corran [could be Corrain]
McLean
W S Gemmell
1898 Au_uck 11 [This line is a bit difficult to make out]
Paisley

Someone has found this possible in 1901
1901
31 New Street, Paisley, Renfrewshire. Reg 573/1
John Mclean 29 Mechanical Engineer
Agnes 29
Thomas 8
Hugh 4
John 3
Agnes 1
Janet Cruikshanks 22 Boarder Threadmill worker

Although John & Agnes are the Parents we have not heard of the other children.
The one's we have are
Archibald 1908
Jean
Mary
Nan ~ this could be Agnes above age 1. Have found out that in Scotland Nancy was a nickname for Agnes so could have been shortend to Nan

Aha! Great stuff!

Scottish 'certificates' are wonderful - they give you so much info. The details for Agnes are probably (without seeing the image):

M S Gemmell = maiden surname
Marriage date: 1898 August (I guess) 11, Paisley
(if you look in the columns at the top of the cert it should tell you what's contained in each)

I really recommend you go onto the ScotlandsPeople website. It's the official GRO site for Scotland and although is pay-per-view you will find a lot of info on there and you can view census images (which you can't on other sites). It costs a minimum of £6 for 30 credits, but you can do a lot of searches for that money.

Sorry, got to dash now, but hope that helps.
