This a transcript of one the interesting notices rescued from the Crumpsall Workhouse Infirmary. I would imagine that similar regulations applied in other workhouses throughout the land. It’s nice to know that they were so concerned about the inmates/patients health that visitors were not allowed to smoke.

be permitted in the



Wards during the



following hours only:



MORNING - 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.



NOON- 1p.m. to 2 p.m.



NIGHT- 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
