Hi,
I'm trying to sort out a family mystery. My gt. gt. grandmother Sarah Silverstone married Marks Waxman/Vaxman in London 1888. On the 1891 census she and her husband are living with the Strauss family. Marks is listed as son-in-law to head of household (Abraham Strauss), and Sarah as daughter-in-law. I'm trying to wok out Marks Waxman's connection to this family. I know Sarah's birth details but Marks was b. 1870 Austria, Cracow according to the census. I haven't been able to find him in 1881 and suspecr he wasn't in the UK. What census data, if any, is available for Austria?

I never knew there was a Cracow in Austria, Angela. Shouldn't this be Poland? Or are we talking about the period when Austria held the 'Grand Duchy of Cracow'? Either way, I am sure it was always in Poland - so that may affect your choices of where to look for the census.
