Hello,
My mother is trying to find anything about what happened to Able Seaman Bill Beresford who was serving on the Aurora when she was attacked in Dover harbour about 1940.
My mother 'went out' with Bill for a while and she recalls that he came from Yorkshire.
Bill was badly injured when the Aurora was attacked and was in hospital for a while at Dover.
Any information about the HMS Aurora (I believe it may have been a destroyer) or about Bill would be really appreciated.

HMS Aurora - Arethusa class Light Cruiser launched 1936, based at Portsmouth.

5,270 tons, 64,000HP, 6x6inch guns, 8x4inch guns.
Twin funnels, two main turrets fore, one aft.

Flagship of Officer Commanding Home Fleet Destroyer Flotillas.

I would imagine that there are some inages of her on the internet.

Also see this other thread (http://www.british-genealogy.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28160)

and note advice from Sue that details of a living person should not be posted on a public forum.

Thanks Geoffers. That confirms both the station and the destroyer links.

I've now discovered that Bill was more likely to have been serving on the destroyer HMS Boreas when she was attacked in July 1940. It also seems that he was something to do with communications, perhaps a radio operator?
Any further info. would be really welcome.
