I have an ancestor (my 2x great grandma) who died March 1881 and her death certificate sites "Apoplexy Hemiplegia" as cause of death. She had given birth to her 10th (known) child in the June quarter 1880. Could childbirth have led to her death?

I am guessing that the cause was some sort of stroke, or paralysis?

Thanks

apoplexy = brain Haemorrhage/stroke
hemiplegia = paralysis affecting one side of the body

I would have thought that if the pregnancy were to cause a stroke it would have happened at the time of the pregnancy or during childbirth rather than nearly a year later.

More likely the stress & strain of looking after 10 children!
