Earlier this year someone sent me details of the marriage of DANIEL DAVIS
and LETTTICE JOHN in Walton West 1802. I had rather ruled out this couple as the parents of my g.g.grandmother MARY DAVIES born 1803, the name Daniel didn't appear in later generations as far as I knew.
Now a cousin has found a family tree in the papers belonging to my aunt
who died recently and that confirms that Daniel and Lettice are in fact my
G.G.G.grandparents. Some of the details on the tree are written in pencil
and a little difficult to read but this is how I think it reads.
DANIEL DAVIES (1774- 1840) m.(1802) LETTICE JOHN (b. 8 August 1772 [I think this should be 1782] d.11 November 1854) They had the following children.
1. MARY DAVIES b.1803 m. Walton West 1828 FRANCIS LOGIN (my g.g.grandparents, shopkeepers in Little Haven)
2. ISAAC DAVIES b.1804
3. LETTICE DAVIES b.1807 m.1828 or 29? HENRY LOWDEN [ I think there is an
error here, I believe that Lettice married JAMES GREENISH Walton West 1830]
4. DANIEL DAVIES b.1809 d. 1848?
5. THOMAS DAVIES 1910 - 1836 [1810 - 1836?]
6. JOHN DAVIES d. 1873
7. ELIZABETH DAVIES b.1813 m. GEORGE JAMES [farmed in Talbenny?]
8. FRANCIS DAVIES b.1818 m. MARIA ELIZA WARREN [Is this MARIA ELIZA WATHEN who married a Francis Davies in 1841?]
9. MARTHA DAVIES b.1824 m. GEORGE HOGAN
The original family tree was drawn by my aunt in 1972 and the pencil
additions have been added by someone else at some later date. It is all very
puzzling, my aunt had an excellent memory and helped me a great deal with
my research, so why didn't she know about these Davies?
I had already found Lettice, Francis, Daniel and Martha Davies living at
FOXHILL FARM Walton West in 1841 and had sent off for a couple of Wills
which I hope will prove the connection.
According to the pencil notes Lettice remarried in 1847 to GEORGE WHITELAW.
Can anyone find any possible places of birth or parents for Daniel Davies and/or Lettice John? It would also be a great help to know where Lettice and her children were living in 1851, and her children in 1861.
