Project 65 has been created to honour the memory of the men of the Coup de Main force that captured the bridges on the Caen Canal and River Orne on D-Day 65 years ago. A team of volunteers will leave Tarrant Rushton Airfield on June 4th 2009 and run 65 miles to arrive at Pegasus Bridge to celebrate the 65th Anniversary of D-Day June 6th 2009.

The aim is to raise £500,000 part of which will be used to erect a simple but lasting memorial to the men of the Coup de Main force and those directly associated with that operation 65 years ago.

Take a look at the website, some photo's and details of the run that they will be doing.

March 14th 2008 Update

Yesterday we received the biggest news of the Project so far. We have been officially awarded registered charity status. Our registered charity number is 1123149. This is excellent news for us all.

Yesterday three committee members travelled to Tarrant Rushton, Dorset to look at the intended site for the start of the run. The airfield is a beautiful and tranquil place which still has original hangars in place as well as a memorial dedicated to the men and women who served there. We were also able to travel along the first half of the 60 (UK) miles of the route as far as Lyndhurst, Hampshire. Barry Tappenden rode 38 miles on his push bike in the pouring rain and he was even able to capture some video footage of the route which we hope to be able to put onto the website for all to see soon.
