John JONES was born in Penrhyndeudraeth, MER in 1812 and christened on February 9, 1812 in Llanfrothen parish church, the son of David Jones a Blacksmith and Gwen Parry his wife.

He worked as a fish hawker selling fish in markets and fairs in north MER and south CAE and was known as John Jones Sgadan (herrings) as a result of his trade, his descendants are still sometimes know as "teulu Sgadans" - the herrings family - in the Dolgellau area to this day.

John Jones had been married prior to 1871, but I don’t know who his wife was or if they had any children. His second marriage was on 25th July 1873 at Judah Baptist chapel Dolgellau when he was 61, his new wife Gwen Owens was only 33 at the time.

John Jones and Gwen Owens had two children:

Jane JONES (17 Mar 1877 - 7 Dec 1936) – my great grandmother
and
Henry JONES (1880 - )

I would be pleased to exchange information with anybody who has or thinks that they might have connections to this family.
