I'm trying to find out more about the family of Ulick Vaughan who was the Ordnance Board Ferryman at Carig Island, on the Lower Shannon. In 1816 his ship had foundered in the Shannon and he had swum to the shore to raise the alarm at Glin. He then went back out with the rescue boat to pick up the other survivors. He was still alive in 1843 when he petioned the Board for a position for his eldest Son, Charles ( who, himsef went on to become a Master Mariner). Charles, at 24, had been part of Lt Wolfe's Survey Team, charting the Shannon. I'm assuming that the family lived somewhere along the Shannon, between Glin and Beal Point. Any information on any Vaughans in the general area would be much appreciated.
